Man City v Arsenal Review – The dream is over as Gunners steamrollered by City’s juggernaut

Well we all knew it was going to be a tall order to go to the home of the Champions and to expect a miracle, considering that the Gunners haven’t beaten Pep Guardiola’s side home or away in the League since the Spaniard took over the helm at the Etihad.

And it didn’t take long for any optimism that Arsenal fans may have had when we went behind after just 7 minutes.

It looks like Guardiola made jut one little tweak to his tactics by swapping De Bruyne to a more forward role and leaving Haaland to be the provider. And they combined brilliantly from a superfast break with just a little touch from Haaland to De Bruyne, who curled a killer shot into Ramsdale bottom corner to give the Cityzens the lead.

The hoped for comeback from Arsenal failed to arrive and De bruyne came very close to doubling the lead after 20 mins, and the attacks kept coming thick and extremely fast from City and we were very lucky to hit the 45 minute mark still only 1-0 down. But in the 2 minutes added time, John Stones popped up at the back of the Arsenal box to head home brilliantly from a free kick. It looked like an easy offside decision but VAR struck and they proved that he was onside by a toe. The goal stood and the dejected Arsenal team traipsed back to the dressing room with a mountain to climb in the second half, especially as the gunners hadn’t even managed one shot on target in the first 45 minutes.

Not that we expected any change and sure enough within 10 minutes De Bruyne had yet again found a waypast Ramsdale, and our despair was complete.

The frustration started to creep in and of course Granit Xhaka was the first one to turn into a hothead and when he was obviously threatening to Grealish on the hour mark, Arteta immediately swapped him for Jorginho, and the tired looking Martinelli was replaced by Trossard.

It was great to see Smith-Rowe come on for the last 20 mins, and I’m glad we managed to get a consolation goal 3 mins from time, the first time we’ve scored against them in 3 meetings this season, and even more surprising that Rob Holding scored it.

Haaland inevitably had to score to make it 4-1, but to be honest we never stood a chance against Guardiola’s juggernaut, and all we can do is hope that Arteta and Edu can have another brilliant transfer summer and keep trying to close the gap ahead of going again next season.

‘You misssed it all’ – IAN WRIGHT highlights missed opportunity for Gabriel Jesus against Man City

Ian Wright believes Gabriel Jesus and Arsenal missed their ‘only chance’ of getting at Manchester City early on in their Premier League title showdown.

City allowed the visitors very few openings but former Arsenal striker Wright highlighted one moment in the first-half with the game scoreless where his old side could have potentially changed the game.

City eased to a 4-1 over the Gunners on Wednesday evening with Kevin de Bruyne breaking the deadlock after just seven minutes.

John Stones doubled the lead just before half-time before de Bruyne struck again on 54 minutes, set up by Erling Haaland for the second time that evening. Haaland got in on the act late on, scoring his 49th goal of the season deep into injury time.

Arsenal pulled one back through Rob Holding late on but failed to truly trouble City on a night where their Premier League title challenge shuddered to a halt.

‘You look where Jesus is [out on the left] and this is the only way Arsenal are going to get any sort of half chance. They did finally break through at one stage and then you look at that [no Arsenal players in the City box].

‘That is where you want your striker because you are not going to get too many opportunities where are you going to be able to break into City and do that. That was five minutes in, you have to take it to put them on the back foot.’

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table is now just two points with City having two games in hand, leaving the title race in their hands.

With Arsenal building down the right, Jesus was pictured out on the left flank rather than making himself available inside the box.

‘What is was, it was the only way you were going to get something off them [City],’ Wright told Match of the Day.

The Gunners also face a tough test away to Newcastle United next weekend with focus now shifting to that game.

‘I don’t know what is going to be required,’ Arteta said of the title race in his post-match press conference.

‘For sure we have to first lift the players up, because they suffered tonight and it was a difficult one to swallow. We’ll lift them up tomorrow and do everything we’ve done so far so well in the next match to earn the right to win [the next game]. That’s where we have to start right now.’

Conditions for HARRY KANE to complete Manchester United transfer move

Harry Kane must ‘force through’ an exit from Tottenham this summer in order for him to get a move to Manchester United.

The England captain will enter the final year of his deal at the end of the season and there’s ‘growing concern’ from the club that he will not commit to a new contract, according to Sky Sports.

That leaves Spurs in a perilous position, as they are determined to hang on to Kane for the duration of his career but if they do not entertain offers this summer he could walk away for free in 2024.

Should Spurs be forced to sell, they would rather offload Kane to a foreign giant like Bayern Munich for a fee of around £80m.

Daniel Levy, Spurs’ chairman, is a notoriously hard negotiator and he would demand upwards of £100m in order to sell Kane to a Premier League rival.

But that’s in a best-case scenario for Kane and Sky say he will have to do everything he can to ‘force through’ an exit.

That raises the possibility of Kane handing in a transfer request and going public with his desire to leave, which would ease Levy’s ability to ‘sell’ the idea to supporters.

But the Spurs chairman is facing increasing pressure at the club following his decision to sack Cristian Stellini after 28 days in charge as interim manager.

"I WILL MURDER THEM!" Before the matchup with Man City, Mikel Arteta issues a threat to Guardiola

Mikel Arteta has vowed to ‘kill’ any Arsenal player who is unable to cope with the pressure in tonight’s Premier League summit meeting between Arsenal and Manchester City.

The long-time leaders have surrendered the initiative in the title race on the back of three successive draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton.

Arteta’s young side appear to have wilted at a critical juncture in a season which has promised so much until this point, but a positive result at the Etihad would go a long way to restoring belief that a first Premier League crown in 19 years is theirs for the taking.

The concession of two goals leads allied to the chaotic nature of a demoralising draw against the team propping up the rest of the division has led to accusations of Arsenal bottling the title, but Arteta insists he sees no signs of his side being inhibited.

‘No,’ said Arteta when asked if his squad was feeling the pressure. ‘And if they do, I will just say: ‘I will kill them.’ And I don’t want that at all.’

‘Obviously the belief is there,’ he added. ‘When I look at how they trained, how they reacted after that, the mood in the dressing room, how they’ve been defending each other in every moment.

‘We really want it and we’re going to show that again tomorrow night. Then you have to deliver in the right moment, the right performance and it has to be perfection because that’s what this last level demands – absolute perfection in every single ball.’

City, by contrast, have hit form at the perfect time in the season and can extend their winning run to eight games with a victory this evening.

Despite their flawless recent record, Pep Guardiola admits he still feels nervous ahead of his side’s biggest game of the campaign.

He said: ‘Being nervous is part of our lives, being anxious is part of our lives, being scared is part of our lives.

‘We don’t have to be perfect. When we educate our kids, they (think they) have to be perfect for Instagram and TikToks, and this kind of thing, they have to be a genius.

‘But I would say the uncertainty, things that happen before a game, happen. When I feel that feeling I know it’s normal. The problem would be if I didn’t have that feeling.

‘At the same time, after the game, whatever happens, good or bad or whatever, you say it’s just part of the game and we look to the next one. I like to live this kind of adrenaline.’

TRANSFER SAGA! Arsenal 'need big money' to sign £62m star at the Emirates

Arsenal could find themselves having to splash out on a big fee, should they wish to land Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

Fati has garnered interest from various Premier League suitors, but Jacobs insists any move for the Spanish international will cost a large amount of money.

Arsenal transfer news - Ansu Fati

As per a report in CaughtOffside, Fati could be set for a sensational departure from the Camp Nou, less than two years after inheriting Lionel Messi's famous number-10 shirt.

After Messi departed Catalonia for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, Fati was handed the number-10 shirt, but the La Masia graduate has since failed to live up to expectations for the Blaugrana.

Instead, as per the report, Fati is linked with a move away from the La Liga giants, with various Premier League clubs already monitoring the situation.

It's claimed Arsenal are among a whole host of Premier League sides showing interest, with Manchester United and Liverpool also eyeing a move up.

Interestingly enough, it comes after a rumoured bust-up in the Barcelona dressing room, which Fati was reportedly front and centre of.

It was claimed by AS that Robert Lewandowski approached Fati after Barcelona's recent defeat against United, complaining about the 20-year-old's contributions to the side.

As a result, speculation surrounding his future has started to grow, with stories linking Fati with a move away from Spain starting to gather pace.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Fati to Arsenal?

When quizzed on the situation in an interview with GMS, CBS reporter Jacobs hinted Arsenal could be in the mix for Fati's signature.

On the winger, Jacobs said: "It's also to Ansu Fati’s point of view about finding a club in the long term, whether Barcelona or elsewhere, that can give him that regularity of game time.

"Because even when Fati has played a game and the number is already higher than last season, it's not always been an integral part or always the full 90 minutes. So what Barcelona and Xavi will be looking to get out of him, if they keep him which is their intent, is a player that can actually contribute and play a full 90 minutes.

"After a while, when you have the number 10 in Barcelona, if you don't do that, you start to fall down the pecking order at which point there might be an opportunity for a Premier League club to pounce.

"But at this point, the Premier League clubs that are being linked are going to have to spend a lot of money and may feel that the Barcelona valuation is too high at this point to seriously advance anything.”

Would it be worth Arsenal splashing the cash on Fati?

Depending on Barcelona's asking price, Arsenal could find value in making a move for Fati at the end of the season.

Despite having a release clause in the region of €1 billion, Fati could still be on the move this summer, with Spanish journalist Marcal Lorente claiming a deal could be done for as little as £62 million.

Given their need to free up funds, it perhaps isn't unthinkable for Barcelona to green-light Fati's exit in the coming months.

Having featured in the starting-11 for just 35% of Barcelona's league matches this season, it's clear Fati isn't an integral part of Xavi's plans, with a move to Arsenal a real possibility right now.

SO BAD! Takehiro Tomiyasu breaks silence on huge error during Arsenal's loss against Manchester City

Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu has opened up on how his teammates reacted to his blunder during his side's 3-1 loss to Manchester City earlier this month.

The Japanese international under-hit a backpass for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, with the ball landing to Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne instead. The former Chelsea midfielder finished delicately first-time to give the Citizens the lead before they eventually cancelled out Bukayo Saka's equaliser by scoring twice in a thrilling second half at the Emirates Stadium.

After the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted that it was an uncharacteristic error from Tomiyasu, saying: "I’ve never seen Tomiyasu make that pass back in seven years and he did it today. It’s part of it and they have the quality to punish you."

Now, the 24-year-old has spoken about how his teammates reacted after his mistake, praising them for helping him recover. Speaking to the club's website, he said “We are a young squad and I feel like I’m part of the family.

“I remember the game against Man City at home I made a mistake and I gave them the first goal, but after that everyone came to me and just told me to keep my head up. They helped me a lot.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t win the game but afterwards I told myself that this game has to be a process. I need to learn from the mistake and I need to bounce back because it’s finished now. I needed to be positive and they helped me.”

Arsenal Predicted Lineup against Everton: Trossard, Martinelli

Arsenal have a chance to go five points clear of Manchester City as they get ready to face Everton on Wednesday, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.

Though the scoreline does not reflect it, the Gunners had a fairly comfortable win over Leicester City. They did not give the Foxes any freedom to attack and that would have been very encouraging to see for the manager.

Aaron Ramsdale added a clean sheet to his tally and would look to get another one against the Toffees. There are not going to be any changes made to the full backs with Ben White on the right and Alex Zinchenko on the left.

As for the centre backs, the north Londoners would hope William Saliba and Gabriel will deal with the aerial bombardment that the visitors will provide. If these two can deal with that, it greatly increases the hosts’ chances of winning.

There was some good news last weekend as Thomas Partey made his return to the team. That should be an indication that the Ghana international is fit and ready to replace Jorginho who has done well. The incoming midfielder will accompany Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli who provide the twin threat from the wings would look to damage Everton with their pace and skill. The latter got the winner at the King Power and that will give him a lot of confidence. In between these two is going to be the captain and conductor, Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian would look to get on the ball regularly and break down the visiting defence.

Leandro Trossard was given a chance to start in a central position at Leicester and did really well. His ability to drop deep or drift wide mimicked at least to some degree what Gabriel Jesus is able to do. That should see the Belgian get another start.

Arsenal looked to be in peril when they lost to City a couple of weeks ago. But now, they find themselves in a position where they can put some daylight between them and their nearest challenger. Beating a team managed by Sean Dyche will not be easy but it can be done.

Arsenal Predicted Lineup Against Everton (4-2-3-1):

Aaron Ramsdale. Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel, Alex Zinchenko, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard

BREAKING! Arsenal Reportedly Preparing Big Summer Bid for €15m Rated Danish Striker

As per reports in Italy, Arsenal are looking to make a massive offer for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund in the summer. Given the need to improve their depth in the striking department, the Gunners have identified the Danish forward as one their top targets.

The Serie A side signed Rasmus Hojlund in a €17 million (£15m) from Austrian club Strum Graz just last summer and has managed to impress both the fans and the coaching staff in such a short time. The centre-forward has had an immediate impact after joining Atalanta and is already expected to see offers from big clubs in Europe after a season with the Italian outfit.

The Danish striker has netted the ball 13 times while assisting 5 times in 22 appearances for the Italian side in all competitions this season (stats via Transfermarkt). These are exceptional stats for a 20-year-old striker playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues. He also earned two senior caps for Denmark last year.

According to La Repubblica (via Metro), Arsenal have been monitoring the growth of Rasmus Hojlund and are considering making a move for the Dane in the summer. The report states the Gunners are preparing a giant offer for the Danish striker.

Atalanta have the upper hand while negotiating as Hojlund still has four more years left on his contract. The Italian club also plan on keeping the player past the 2023 summer transfer window. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is confident that the Denmark international is going to be one to look out for in the future. This is what Gasperini had to say:,

‘Hojlund has this spirit, energy, intensity, but also technical quality that is just remarkable. He still has so much margin for improvement, too, He has very similar characteristics to Haaland, not just his face. He is so quick, he’s under 11 seconds over 100 metres and that’s not even trying very hard. Considering his height, he has a low centre of gravity and can move his legs very fast. I am convinced he’ll have a great career, he just gets stronger every day.’

Moreover, the North London side will have to make a big offer considering Real Madrid President Florentino Perez is also said to be a big fun of the young centre-forward. Perez believes Hojlund could be a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.

Should Arsenal Break The Bank For Rasmus Hojlund?

Erling Haaland is just 22-years-old and is already one of the best strikers in the world right now. Rasmus Hojlund does have similar qualities to that of the Norwegian and is only 20-years-old. The Dane is performing exceptionally well at Atalanta but is capable of doing better with better support.

The Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus as their new number 9 in the last summer window. However, he has not been available for Arsenal for the majority of this season due to injury, although he did show what effect he can have when starting games. The Brazilian likes to dribble, likes to have the ball at his feet, and is not one to wait in the box like a poacher just to score goals.

On the other hand, the Danish striker likes to finish off his chances in a very similar fashion to Haaland. Although Hojland does not have a big build like Haaland, he still has the same intensity to trouble the opposition’s defences. Rasmus Hojland  is also guaranteed to get better support at Arsenal considering how well Eddie Nketiah has been doing this season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will have options in terms of having two strikers with different playing styles. This will help the Spaniard to change his setup when chasing a game or when they have to break low-blocks.

Rasmus Hojlund is an investment for the long-term and Arsenal should make an attempt to sign the player in the upcoming transfer window before Real Madrid seriously enter the market for the 20-year-old sensation.

Gary Neville Claims Key Player’s Absence Could Scupper United’s Title Chances

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville believes the injury sustained by Christian Eriksen could “hurt” Manchester United’s title ambitions.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City lost at the weekend, prompting more debate over whether Erik ten Hag’s side can enter the race for top spot. However, while he wouldn’t rule out his former team as title challengers, Neville feels the absence of Eriksen will play a role in the Red Devils falling short:

“Are we in with a chance again? Look, I don’t think Manchester United will get there, I think they will fall short. They’re just not quite there and the Christian Eriksen injury will hurt, but they’re doing really, really well and they’re competing again.”

“They look happy too and that’s a really big thing. You need that. From that point of view, United are doing well. It’s not ridiculous to say they could win the title. I don’t think they will and I’ve never thought they will this season because it’s a bit early for that.”

Eriksen sustained an ankle injury following a crude tackle from Reading striker Andy Carroll during a FA Cup match. The Danish international was subsequently ruled out for up to three months.

United brought in Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer as a replacement before the transfer window closed, and the Austrian acquitted himself well on his debut versus Crystal Palace at the weekend. Whether he can make up for Eriksen’s absence, though, it is up for debate.

Ten Hag’s men are still eight points behind Arsenal, having played a game more, so the chances of finishing top of the table are still rather slim, but things could change in the coming weeks.

Predicted MUFC XI vs Leeds United (Premier League home, 2022/23)

Our predicted MUFC XI for the Premier League home game vs Leeds United is now in.

Manchester United Football Club renew rivalry with their old enemy this week, with back-to-back matches against Leeds United set to be played.

The first fixture takes place under the Old Trafford floodlights this coming Wednesday, with Erik ten Hag getting a taste of this fixture for the first time.

He will not be taking on Jesse Marsch, who has lost his job over the last 24 hours. This can be looked at in one of two ways; Leeds will be less predictable here, whereas they won’t have an experienced manager in place before the two sides meet.

Sadly, United will have to play these games without midfield stalwart, Casemiro, who is absent for the next three. Anyway, our predicted team news is now in, so let’s get right into it…

Check out our predicted MUFC XI for the 2022/23 home game vs Leeds United in full here:

David de Gea starts in between the sticks, with the Spaniard in for another busy evening.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been good in the right-back slot of late, so it makes sense to keep that ball rolling while Diogo Dalot works back from injury. Luke Shaw starts in the left-back position. Raphael Varane continues to partner Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the back four.

Marcel Sabitzer was signed for these moments, so it absolutely makes sense to give him the start here and see what he can do. We’re going to need the Austrian to be on it from minute one, against a fast-paced Leeds side. Fred will partner the Bayern Munich loanee, with Bruno Fernandes starting slightly further up the field.

Wout Weghorst has been good in Anthony Martial’s injury absence. A goal here would do loads for his confidence. To his right and left respectively is Antony and Marcus Rashford, both of whom have been in good form recently.
